I would like to thank Dr Pratap Singhal for his positive comment yesterday:

Best wishes,

Pratap Singhal MD Dht

You made my day Dr Singhal, thank you, I appreciate your comment.

This is part 2 of a 3 parts series on Angle-closure Glaucoma. Today I will explain how common is Angle-closure Glaucoma.

Angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) is less common than its counterpart, open-angle glaucoma, but it still affects a significant portion of the global population, particularly in certain regions and demographics. Here are some key points about how common angle-closure glaucoma is:

Global Prevalence

  • Angle-closure glaucoma is estimated to affect about 20% of the global glaucoma population, with open-angle glaucoma making up the remaining 80%.

  • In 2020, approximately 23 million people worldwide were affected by primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG).

  • It is expected that the number of cases will increase due to the aging global population.
